Certificate in Parent Education

The certificate program in parent education teaches the content, design, preparation, and facilitation of parenting workshops. Adlerian theory and best practice in parent education will be covered through both academic and experiential learning. Full certification is granted on the completion of an 8-week STEP parenting workshop as co-facilitator. The Parent Education Program credential indicates that the recipient has met all of the standards and requirements for the practice of Adlerian Parenting Education in the Province of British Columbia. The credential is awarded by The Alfred Adler Institute and recognized by Adlerian peers and practitioners through the Adlerian Psychology Association of BC.

Coursework

  • Introduction to Adlerian Psychology (2 credits)
  • Introduction to Basic Principles of Adlerian Parenting (1 credit)
  • Basic skills in Adult Education (0.5 credit)

Certificate Stream:

For those seeking skills and tools to enhance their counselling and parenting practices. Also for those working with children and adolescents, couples and families in related fields such as teaching, social work, family support and parents in general.

Using an holistic Adlerian approach, participants will learn the tools to both conceptualize and offer parenting support to those in need.

After completing the 8-week program, participants will receive a certificate of completion,

Certified Parenting Facilitator (CPF) Stream:

This Certificate is a compulsory prerequisite for applicants seeking future Certification as a Certified Parenting Facilitator (CPF). Applicants in this stream will need to complete the following requisites:

  • Member of the Adlerian Psychology Association of British Columbia (APABC) click here
  • Co-facilitate an 8-week STEP parenting program click here
  • Current criminal record check (vulnerable sector)
  • Interview with the Program Director
